Ogun State Government is set to expand its Broiler Project to all the Local Government (LG) Areas across the State, in order to promote Poultry farming and ensure food security.

Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Adeola Odedina, who disclosed this during the Ministry’s in- house engagement with directors of Agriculture from all LGs, said the move was to further expand the benefits to the nooks and crannies of the State.

Odedina disclosed that the first and second phase of the project, where beneficiaries made average profits of between 140,000 and 170,000 per production cycle, was designed to increase food sufficiency, provide jobs for unemployed youths among others.

“We are interested in agricultural industrialisation and that is why we are supporting Small holder farmers and you are the closest to them. We charged you to sustain and improve on the level of support for the present administration’s agricultural policies”, he said.

The Commissioner revealed that since Agro-investors are taking advantage of the various Agricultural opportunities in the State, it was incumbent on them to ensure the availability of raw materials.

Earlier, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Dotun Sorunke underscored Local Governments’ role in actualisation of the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration’s agricultural road map, charging them to always keep farmers in their locality abreast of agricultural programmes.

Responding, the Project Manager, Ogun State Agricultural Development Programme (OGADEP), Deaconess Taiwo Ayansanwo and Director of Agriculture, Abeokuta South Local Government, Akorede Fatai, expressed satisfaction with the engagement, promising to continue to involve farmers in government’s agricultural programmes across the State.
