ABIODUN DESCRIBES RESIDENT DOCTORS’ STRIKE AS BREACH OF TRUST

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has described the warning strike embarked upon by Resident Doctors at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, as a breach of trust.

          Governor Abiodun who stated this while fielding questions during the weekly press briefing on Covid-19 situation in the State, noted that the Doctors’ demand for increase in salary was inconceivable, when government was  trying to figure out how and what to do during this pandemic, as the nation was going into recession.

          “This is a development that I find rather disturbing and I consider it a breach of trust. My team met with them on several occasions, where we looked at areas of concern, reached an agreement with them and signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which was not done under duress.

          “I subsequently requested to meet with them alongside my health team and at that meeting, reiterated all that had been discussed and agreed on, in addition to the life policy we have put in place, 200 percent hazard allowance. At the meeting, I increased the hazard allowance to 300 percent and mentioned the fact that we needed to dialogue more often”, the Governor explained.

          He further said that government had organised necessary training, as well as provision of Personal Protective Equipment, face masks and other accessories to its medical personnel in hospitals, to prevent them from contracting the Virus.

          Governor Abiodun disclosed that his administration had engaged all spectrum of health workers including, cleaners, nurses, pharmacists and

consultants, on how to keep safe during this pandemic, adding that the State  ranked fourth in testing, while its Isolation Centres were considered post COVID-19 facilities by the World Health Organization.
